A New Look At Cancun Area Hotels – Part 3

LOCATION:  Cancun Hotel Zone. La Isla Shopping Center is right across the street!!


­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­DESCRIPTION OF PROPERTY:  All-inclusive, Adults only.  Age 18+

Property type:  Ultra modern, crescent-shaped building with all rooms facing the Caribbean Sea.

Lobby:  Modern and spacious with spa music and spa scents.  Water trails with ultra modern statues coming out of the water.  Check-in at the lounge area and each guest receives a “hand massage”!

Rooms:  371 rooms and suites on 9 floors. Each regular guest room is 648 sq. feet.  All rooms face the ocean with balcony or terrace.  There are 2 floors of smoking rooms which are on request.  Aqua Club Lounge is on the 5th floor and includes continental breakfast, concierge and ultra-premium liquor choices.  Club level and suites include “beds by the pool” which are $60 a day for non-Club level guests.

Pool:  8 infinity pools overlook the Caribbean Sea.

Grounds:  Modern, lush grounds with a “quiet” and a “busy” side of the hotel.

Restaurants:  3 Celeb-chef restaurants!!  4 bars and a Coffee Corner. Buffet breakfast plus a la carte and room service.  The Beachside Restaurant features Mediterranean dishes for lunch and Italian for dinner.

Beach:  Nice white sand beach with waves and shore break.  Shore Club has beachside lounging plus cabanas and hammocks.

Health Facilities:  Fitness center with state of the art equipment.  Spa has 12 indoor and 4 outdoor treatment rooms. Free tennis courts. Golf nearby. Scuba Diving Introductory Session, Jogging at sunrise.

Activities:  Thai Chi yoga classes, cooking classes, Spanish classes, aerobics, Sea Turtle Hatching Releasing.

OTHER THINGS TO NOTE:  The Night Bar has 40’s and 50’s music. Free Wi-Fi in public areas.  Internet access in rooms.  Access to “B-on” media center with computers and printers. Wheelchair access.



LOCATION: Riviera Maya

DISTANCE FROM AIRPORT: Drive time 25 minutes from airport

Lobby: Large Spanish style lobby very tropical and welcoming.

Rooms: All Suite

Pool:  2 extremely large pools

Grounds: Very large expansive property, very lush and tropical

Restaurants:  Buffet breakfast & 7 different restaurants with different cuisines, a la carte, Lobster 15 dollar up charge.  We had very nice lunch my fish was perfectly prepared.

Beach: Very nice large stretch of beach.

Health Facilities: Medium size Gym & Spa

Activities & Specialty Vacation Programs:

Honeymoon & Anniversary & Wedding and Renewal of vows packages available.

OTHER THINGS TO NOTE:  Golf:   Golf course close by in Playa Del Carmen

Nearby shopping: Yes …Lots of safe shopping in both Cancun & Playa Del Carmen

DISTANCE FROM AIRPORT: Drive time – 15 minutes

Lobby:  Large palapa entrance. Authentic, tropical. Most Mexican of the resorts we visited.

Pool:  2 pools, upper level a bit quieter, lower level more families. Popsicle service poolside.

Restaurants:  6 restaurants, 4 bars. Asian, Mexican, Italian, Buffet, etc.    All inclusive, also have an a-la carte wine list for purchase.  No reservations required no limit on how many visits.  Change menu at restaurants for each meal.  Smoothies and fish tacos (house specialty) for lunch. Taco bar in the evenings.

Beach:  Very nice large stretch of beach. Some rooms have terraces that reach the sand.

Health Facilities:  Full service spa

Activities:  Cinema for evening entertainment included. Family program included, also have teen area and evening activities.

What are the advantages offered by this property?  More authentic experience, free Wi-Fi


  1. It has been a while since I have visited Mexico – wasn’t a fan of the Cancun strip, but your review of these hotels – I may reconsider for future trips! I have always wondered about the Mayan Riviera!

    1. Anita, Thanks for reading! I have found that I like the beach by the Hotel Zone better, but I LOVE the hotels in the Riviera. I find them less hotelish and more in line with the culture of the area.
