Wedding Wednesday – Destination Bachelor/Bachelorette Parties

Hey Best Men and Maids of Honor this one’s for you!

Bachelor parties used to be a great night out on the town. Now, the fastest growing trend in the world of weddings is running away with your friends to celebrate pending nuptials. Some people are going to the Florida Keys, some go to Vegas for a wild time, and some spend a weekend on a cruise or at an all-inclusive resort. Where ever you go and whatever you do, it is important to make it special for the bride/groom.

My sister-in-law’s bachelorette weekend was in Mexico. Since we love to eat and drink, and considering the size of our group, an all-inclusive resort was the best option. We got to the resort, put our stuff in the safe, and went down to the swim-up pool bar!  Next up was dinner and yummy Mexican food where we were able to order anything we wanted without worry about cost!

Not too long ago, while on a weekend cruise on the Majesty of the Seas I saw the coolest thing…there was a group of girls dressed up for formal night taking pictures everywhere. After a while I noticed the girl in the middle wearing a white dress, tiara and a sash that said bachelorette. I looked at the wall of pictures that night and everywhere I looked I saw that group of girls having an amazing time! That was a great bachelorette party!

My brother’s groomsmen took him on a golfing vacation in Orlando. Three nights, every morning/afternoon (depending when they woke up!) on the golf course and drinking around the world at EPCOT in the evenings! I think they might have had as much fun as the girls in Mexico!

Something to keep in mind is to be kind to people’s budgets. Everyone spends a lot of money on weddings (even someone else’s wedding) and asking people to go away for a weekend can sometimes be a stretch. Brides and Grooms of the world… please don’t be offended if someone can’t afford to go. It doesn’t mean they love you any less.

Beyond that, the world is your oyster.  Enjoy your friends… enjoy your time… and enjoy planning the future!

  1. Great post. I’m the MOH we are planning a destination bachelorette in Mexico or Vegas too! The cruises are especially a good deal, but I would say the only drawback is expensive drinks (you could bring your own) and the tons of kids everywhere!

    1. Tracy, we ran in to the same thing! The cruises are very inexpensive and a great value, but if you are big drinkers… consider flying somewhere and staying at an all-inclusive! We certainly drank more than the trip cost us!

  2. Hi Stacey!! I’m in the beginning stages of starting an event planning business focusing mainly on private, corporate & maybe some weddings. I would say my niche is themed parties for special occasions but I’m wanting to explore more into bachelor & bachelorette parties, making them unique and different than your typical bar hoping, party bus evenings. I guess what I’m really wanting to know is if you think there is a market for this kind of thing. Being mainly a bachelor/bachelorette party planner. Are brides and grooms to be looking for someone to help them plan their last shindig?!

    1. Jessica, I really do think there is a market for what you are talking about. You should make contacts with clubs, bars, experiences (like Lips in Ft Lauderdale or Off the Hookah by Las Olas) to get in with them. This would make it so you could put complete packages together and get paid for your services. It’s a great niche market to work with because people are so excited! Another thought… baby showers… BIG Market 🙂
