My Destination Wedding – Azul Beach Hotel 11/11/12

So I’m back!  It was an amazing adventure and I miss every minute of my time in Mexico!  There will be posts about everything including pictures, but for right now I want to give you my general thoughts on everything to do with my wedding.

First and foremost:  Hire a ME!  I don’t care if you actually hire me (naturally I prefer it though), or another travel agent who specializes in Destination Weddings, but seriously… the most stressful part about the whole entire thing was trying to coordinate the travel arrangements AND plan the wedding at the same time.  There just aren’t enough hours in a day to do both things comfortably.  The reason to use a Destination Wedding Travel agent is because we know things.  We know really great hotels, we know great values, who know who has the best packages for groups, we know when the best times to fly are going to be, we know what to do in case of an emergency. 

Insurance:  There is not enough I can say about travel insurance.  It’s kind of like car and house insurance… you pay for it and hope you never need to use it.  Sadly, we had 3 people who ended up needing it.  It was great to know that they had nothing to worry about and would have their money back.

Time schedule:  Be flexible.  Whether you are trying to coordinate 10 or 100 people, they will most likely not be entirely on your time schedule.  Set up with your Wedding Coordinator (most hotels have one state-side for you to set up all of your plans with).  Set up a daily time schedule for your wedding day with your Wedding Coordinator.  Also have a photography schedule that you send to your photographer a few weeks before the wedding.  You want to make sure the photographer knows in advance what you want so they can make sure to do it.  You’ll hear later about my picture fiascos 😛

Relax:  People are going to have an amazing time.  No matter what happens, they will be happy and well taken care of.  Make sure that you are happy and well taken care of as well.  One of my favorite comments was that I was the calmest bride they had ever seen.  I partially attribute that to the alcohol (yay for all-inclusive resorts) and partially because I did all of my planning before I got there.  It was much easier to appreciate the most important weekend of my life with nothing to worry about!

  1. Congrats Stacey, looks and sounds like a great time was had by all. I agree with using someone who knows what they’re doing when it comes to destination weddings. Its not a time when you want to be a complete stress head!
    I had my first wedding many years ago in Cancun and loved it. I can’t wait to get back there with husband number two. I look forward to hearing all about it on your blog.
